Care work with Beamsmoor Care At Home
Who can work in Domicilary (Home Based )Care?
We require people who reflect the local communities in which we provide our services, and have the skills, abilities and aptitude to provide a high quality service to our service users and their carers, so we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds
What qualifications do I need?
To start as a social care support worker you do not need a care qualification. However, the Care Quality Commission require all social care support workers to complete their induction training within the first 13 weeks of employment, foundation during their first year and you will also need to be registered on an NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care course through either Kendal College or Furness College within the first 6 months of employment.
Do I need anything else to do the work?
Yes - the work involves visiting people in their own homes, so you will need to have a full driving licence and access to motor transport e.g. car or motorbike. (It is sometimes possible to arrange some work that you can carry out on foot or by public transport but the amount of work available will be small). As the work involves supporting vulnerable people you will also need a full criminal record bureau (CRB) check; as well as a check to ensure you are registered with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (I.S.A.) Our administration team will process this and there is no charge to you (providing you carry out at least 200 hours paid employment for Beamsmoor Care at Home).
How old must I be?
You must be at least 18 years old (due to the above)
What is the work like?
Every service user has an agreed, individual, person centred Support Plan which has been completed in unison by both the Service User and/or their advocate, and the relevant manager from B.C.A.H. The Support Plan details the care and support the Service User needs. Therefore, the work varies and is different, it will also change, as the service users needs change. You could be providing personal care by assisting a service user to get up washed and dressed or helping to remind and monitor the service user to take their medication and eat regularly, you may also be working with other social care support workers as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a complete and comprehensive care package. The next day or week this could all change, particularly if the service user is recovering from an illness or operation - that is what makes the job interesting and challenging.
